Founded by Dr Khoo Kien Ling, ADAMAS Weddings Sdn Bhd, a ISO-certified company began operations as a wedding planning services provider before branching out to establish a wedding planning school less than 5 years ago. The company was awarded approval to issue franchise licenses for wedding planning and training by the Ministry of Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism in September.

“The wedding planning industry is a healthy and thriving market to enter for anyone with a genuine love of weddings, great people skills and the desire and ambition to own a business,” she said. “ All you need is a passion for event planning, the right skills and a little creativity.”

The launch of the ADAMAS franchise program is timely and in line with the Malaysian government’s call to encourage a more vibrant entrepreneurial spirit among youths and create more successful young entrepreneurs in our society,” said Y. Bhg Datin Seri Elena Chiang Abdullah, Franchise Development Division Director of the Ministry of Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism Malaysia.

Under the franchise scheme, ADAMAS Weddings will assist young aspiring wedding planners to set up their own wedding planning business by providing centralised and technical support for their new start-up business.

Would-be entrepreneurs have two start-up options – opening their own shop or act as a microfranchisee. Microfranchisees are attached to a particular franchise centre and pay a monthly showroom and on-site coordination fee to the franchise centre. Initial investment is about RM22,800 for the microfranchisee business option and about RM250,000 for the franchise centre option (depending on the location and size of the shop). Franchise loan packages from the government are available to assist those with funding difficulties.

We believe the franchise program  is an excellent opportunity for young Malaysians, particularly women who are looking for a career change or chance to own their own business to learn more about how they can fulfill this dream,” said Dr Khoo.

Franchise business in Malaysia has seen s significant growth lately. Franchise is now a popular trend of doing business among new entrepreneurs in Malaysia.

As of August 2011, the Malaysian Government through various agencies has assisted and funded 80 local companies to franchise their businesses in order to expand their brands through franchisees local and abroad.

There are currently 378 registered local franchise brands in Malaysia. From these registered franchise brands, 4912 franchisees have been created locally and another 1321 franchisees have been established in 53 countries worldwide.
