| A Romantic Fortieth Wedding Anniversary in Cornwall England.
‘You must do something special’ said my friend Sally, when I told her that my husband and I had our 40th wedding anniversary coming up in a month’s time. Really! I thought, neither of us had given it a moments thought, probably because we hadn’t bothered to celebrate anniversaries in the past. My friend’s words hung in my mind, and later that evening, I mentioned to Michael, my husband, Sally’s suggestion that we should do something special to celebrate. To my amazement, Michael was very receptive to the idea, and two days later, to my great surprise, informed me that he had booked a Romantic Anniversary Package via a Special Holidays Agent. The Romantic Holiday was to visit and stay at Camelote Castle, in the quaint village of Tintagel, Cornwall, England. A month later, we were on the way. A chauffeur driven car collected us, and drove us to Cornwall. Cornwall welcomed us with stunning sceneries of naturally beautiful lush green rolling hills, complimented by rugged coastlines. Wonderful! Camelote Castle was a stunning building with a history to impress, including the legend that it was the birthplace of King Arthur. Our room at the Castle was stunning with large windows overlooking carefully tended rose gardens. It was furnished in an Old English Style with the Piece De Resistence ‘ a magnificent and romantic four poster bed’. The Jacuzzi, we discovered in the bathroom, was a wonderful surprise. We were touched to see that our hosts had thoughtfully provided a welcome bottle of champagne, bouquet of orchids, and a box of posh chocolates. It was a lovely gesture and made us feel most welcome. The evening had that special feel to it, watery sun, comfortable warm air, pink sky and the perfume of flowers in the air. We decided to explore the castle and gardens. Growing in the gardens were every type of flower, with the roses and foxgloves standing proud and looking magnificent. We walked down to the coastline passing many visiting cyclists as we walked. People were high on the mountain paths, walking, climbing even picnicking. We felt good, and very lucky that the holiday agent had suggested this romantic place. We returned to the castle to dress for the evening meal. Wow! What an evening it turned out to be! It started with a red carpet leading us into the dining room; a young waiter guided us to our table, which was set in a secluded corner, lit by candelabra candle light, the table was set with shiny silver ware and a mixture of yellow/golden flowers. I wore my specially bought Anniversary Dress, and my husband of forty years looked very handsome in his dinner jacket. The meal was a la carte and tasted very delicious, and was complimented by a different bottle of the best wine with each course. Of course, anniversary champagne was also served [hiccup!!] which put us in a very comfortable and relaxed mood. We felt like the lord and lady of the manor! We didn’t want the evening to end so we walked through to the conservatory where we stood with glass of champagne in hand, my husbands arm around my shoulder, as we watched the stars twinkling in a clear sky. After half an hour we retired to our four poster bed, and what a surprise we were in for, when we turned down the bedclothes, there to our surprise, rose petals had been scattered in the bed, how special and romantic! This thoughtful gesture was so appreciated. The rest of the holiday was just as magical, as special celebration to be remembered. Michael and myself are both so glad that Sally suggested contacting the ‘Special Occasions Holidays Agent’ to arrange everything for us.
