Dr Khoo's First Book "99 Tips For Your Wedding" featured in I.M. Magazine

Dr Khoo is the author of the book “99 Tips for Your Wedding“, her book was launched on 15 Dec 2011 at Hilton Kuala Lumpur by Tengku Faizwa bt. Tengku Razif. You can read more about the launching of the book here.

Retail price is RM29.90. You can purchase the book at Kikokuniya (KLCC) or MPH outlets Nationwide. The book is also sold at Sunflower Paper Passion & Things (LG45, Lower Ground Floor,Ikano Power Centre), Garden of Senses (C213, Centre Wing, Metropolitan Square, Jalan PJU 8/1, Bandar Damansara Perdana) and Killiney Kopitiam outlets nationwide.

From 15 Dec 2011 till 15 January 2012, the book was sold at the price of RM50. All proceeds channelled in aid of Breast Cancer Welfare Association (BCWA). The hand over of the cheque for RM20,000 (RM5,000 more than the initial predicted amount) was carried out at BCWA on the 14 March 2012.

Dr Khoo was featured on NTV The Breakfast show to talk about her book on the 16 December 2011, Friday. Her book was reviewed by her client and now her good friend Sue Lynn – Bangsar Babe. Her Book was also featured on Berita Harian Ratu (13 Jan 2012), I.M. Magazine (12 Apr 2012), Jasmine Magazine May 2012 issue and Her World Magazine June 2012 Issue.

Gary Wright (CEO of Weddings Besutiful Worldwide) left a note on the back cover of the book and Richard Markel (President of the Association for Wedding Professionals International) wrote the forward of the book.

Laura Schwartz (White House Director of Events for the Clinton Administration, professional speaker, Author of Eat, Drink & Succeed and well known international television commentator) said “Your energy & passion are an inspiration. Your book will be a fabulous success, just like you.”

She had also shared her book with Preston Bailey (US Award Winning Event Designer), David Tutera (US Celebrity wedding Planner, Host of the reality TV series – My Fair Wedding), Alan Berg (Wedding Marketing Expert, Author and Professional Speaker) and Sasha Souza (One of the Top Event Designer in US).

The second day (27 February,  Monday) was a fabulous one, I will tell you why, just continue reading. Started very early today, the first session was at 7:30am, the topic was “Rise and Shine Event Trends“. Petra Compel and Andrew Zill from Feats shared with us on what’s hot and what’s not for 2012, show us many photos on the setup etc. It was worth waking up early to attend this session.

The next session was the session everyone is waiting for, the Featured Session by Preston Bailey. He shared with us on “How to Make Money in the Events Industry“. He was an amazing speaker.

I still remembered very clearly on what he said about publishing a book, “Writing a book is not about making money, it is actually a marketing tool that you can proudly show to your client or others in the industry.” This is so true, those people that I presented my book to, they can remembered me better compared to just giving them a business card. He also taught us on how to work out the charges/ fees, time cost must be taken into consideration. Next important tip given was “You have to tell youself how much money you want to make, then start to sell“. He also taught us on how to sell and make profit, the ultimate goal of running a business. We had definitely learned a lot from him.

We went for Preston Bailey book signing right after his session. Well, I was so honoured to gave him a signed copy of my book, he actually checked whether I have signed. He asked me whether I self published the book, and when I told him yes, he said “well done!” He told me that he will read my book on the plane, I was so pleased and I believe he will.

Went for lunch at Sugar Factory at Paris Hotel. My Vegie Burger with Sweet Potato Fries was yummy. After lunch I went to Bellagio Hotel to attend the Wedding Gallery, it was an optional event. So I had to pay to attend. It was a real long walk to go to Bellagio Hotel.

The session was ok, the ideas were good, but to pay to view this I don’t think is worth the money we paid. There were a total of 3 rooms featuring different themes, the first room was Arabic Design, the second was a Secret Garden, the last room was very contemporary, white, bright just like in a heaven with angels surrounding us. There is a human statue in the second room, it was so hilarious when he told the visitors like us that he is a real person when someone screamed when he moved. There is also a room to showcase the Madame Tussauds.

After visiting the wedding gallery, I decided to walk back to Caesars Palace Hotel to attend the education sessions. Attended the session by The Knot, they shared with us on the current trends and the statistics they collected, was quite informative. This was just a 1/2 hour session, a short session. I like this particular information she they shared with us, “Let them Eat Cake“, majority of the wedding couples still preferred to order a whole cake rather than cup cakes and etc according to the statistic they collected, which is very interesting as I always thought that cup cake is the trend.

I then went for Sasha Souza‘s session, she talked about “Psychology of Color & Your Events: What Client’s Color Choices Say About Them“. She showed some examples on how various cultures see color that ultimately affects event design. How we as a event designer encourage clients to choose more daring colour, one of the example was when client wanted the colour brown, we can propose copper rather than brown which is very common.

Well she is a real good speaker as usual, I like it when she said “if your client like your style, I don’t see why they do not want to use your vendors.” This is so true. This all come in a package. I gave her a copy of my signed book, since then we have been connecting through twitter more often. We have known each other since 2 years ago at Event Solutions.

After the sessions, I went to the outlet mall to do some quick shopping as today is the only day that I had some spare time to do so.

The Event Solutions Idea Factory 2012 was held at Caesars palace, Las Vegas this year, the conference started on 26 Feb, Sunday and ended on the 29 Feb, Wednesday. The Featured Session was given by Preston Bailey and the Closing Session by David Tutera.

The hotel was not as beautiful and new as Cosmopolitan last year and this year there were a lot of walking, the wedding gallery was located at the Bellagio Hotel for example. Despite all these, it was a very fruitful conference to attend. Most importantly, this conference always create a very good platform for networking, I get to know a lot of good friends and learned a lot from them, I do not use the word “share” as most of the time I am learning from them as I am so pleased and honored to know them personally. I will show you some of the photos taken with them later.

The Education Session started at 10:30am, the first session was interesting, the topic was “Gay Weddings are Good for Business“, I do have friends asking me to plan their gay wedding for them. This must be the trend now. I do also come across students asking me to share some opinions  on this.
